India launches campaign for UNSC non-permanent seat, 2028-29 term
External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar launched India's campaign for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council (UNSC) for the 2028-29 term at UN Headquarters, New York. The campaign theme is SHANTI: Securing Holistic Advancement through Norms, Trust and Integrity. India's priorities include countering terror financing, maritime security and responsible AI governance. Elections are scheduled for June 2027, where India competes against Tajikistan for the sole Asia-Pacific seat. India has served as a non-permanent member 8 times (last in 2021-22).
