Solutions

1994.(B) Mesopotamian Civilization

The Mesopotamian civilization, between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers in present-day Iraq, is regarded as the world's oldest; its Sumerian cities and cuneiform writing date from about 3500 BCE. The Egyptian (Nile), Indus Valley and Chinese civilizations came later.

1995.(D) French Revolution

The Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen was adopted by France's National Assembly in August 1789, at the start of the French Revolution. It proclaimed liberty, equality and the rights of all citizens.

1996.(A) John Locke

Two Treatises of Government (1689) was written by the English philosopher John Locke. It rejects the divine right of kings. Locke argued that government rests on the consent of the governed. Its job is to protect natural rights to life, liberty and property. Thomas Hobbes wrote 'Leviathan' (1651). Rousseau wrote 'The Social Contract' (1762). Herbert Spencer wrote 'Social Statics'.

1997.(D) Harry S. Truman

The Marshall Plan (European Recovery Program, 1948–52) was announced by Secretary of State George Marshall in June 1947 and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman in April 1948. Roosevelt had died in 1945, Eisenhower became President in 1953, and Wilson belonged to the First World War era.

1998.(B) Lexington

The American War of Independence opened on 19 April 1775 at Lexington, where British regulars marching on Concord met the colonial militia — the 'shot heard round the world'. Boston saw the earlier Massacre of 1770 and Tea Party of 1773. Jamestown was the first English settlement (1607). Trenton was Washington's victory of December 1776.

1999.(A) Müller and Bell

Germany signed the Treaty of Versailles in the Hall of Mirrors on 28 June 1919. The signatories were the foreign minister Hermann Müller and the transport minister Johannes Bell. They went only after the National Assembly voted to accept the terms. The war-guilt clause and the reparations that followed made the treaty a lasting grievance in Germany.

2000.(D) USSR

Operation Barbarossa was the code name for Hitler's invasion of the Soviet Union. It began on 22 June 1941 along a front from the Baltic to the Black Sea. It tore up the Nazi-Soviet Pact of 1939. The Germans failed before Moscow and were beaten at Stalingrad. This opened the eastern front that decided the Second World War.

2001.(A) Invention of wheel

The wheel is credited to the Sumerians of Mesopotamia, about 3500 BCE. They used it first as a potter's wheel and then on carts. Mesopotamia also gave the world cuneiform writing and the 60-based counting system. The Pythagoras theorem belongs to ancient Greece. Cyclopean masonry belongs to Mycenaean Greece. Stonehenge belongs to prehistoric Britain.

2002.(A) Russia and the Central Powers

The Treaty of Brest-Litovsk was signed on 3 March 1918. It took Bolshevik Russia out of the First World War. It made peace with the Central Powers — Germany, Austria-Hungary, the Ottoman Empire and Bulgaria. The cost was Poland, the Baltic provinces, Finland and Ukraine. It was annulled when Germany surrendered in November 1918.

2003.(B) Lenin

Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov took the revolutionary alias Lenin, and under that name led the Bolsheviks to power in the October Revolution of 1917. Stalin was born Iosif Dzhugashvili and Trotsky was Lev Bronstein, while Alexander Kerensky headed the Provisional Government the Bolsheviks overthrew.

Common questions about World History in PPSC

How many World History questions come in PPSC exams?

The Commission set 33 World History questions across 10 papers between 2015–2024. That is the whole set, not a sample — every one of them is in the book, and the 10 most-asked are on this page free.

Are PPSC World History questions repeated?

Yes. 1 of these 33 were set in more than one exam, which is why they are worth working rather than reading. Each question here carries a badge showing how many sittings asked it.

Where can I get World History MCQs with answers and solutions?

Here. Every question on this page is a solved MCQ: the four options as printed, the correct answer, and a worked explanation in plain English — not just a letter. The rest of the 33 are in the book, in the same form.

Can I practice these World History questions online?

Switch to Attempt mode at the top of the questions. You get one question at a time and it is marked the moment you pick an option, with the reason underneath — the same way the exam feels, on your phone.

Is a PDF available?

The questions are on screen rather than in a downloadable file, so they stay current and correct. The printed book has all 33 of these plus the rest of the General Knowledge section, and every buyer gets the whole thing online as well.

Which papers asked World History

The exams behind these questions, most first. A paper here is a sitting: a question set in two papers of the same sitting counts once.
