SBI does not publish a topic-level syllabus for Junior Associate recruitment. The notification fixes only the test names, question counts, marks and timing — reproduced faithfully below. The topics under each section are the standard areas these tests draw from, based on the published pattern and recent papers; they are preparation guidance, not an official SBI syllabus. A qualifying Local Language Proficiency Test (non-verbal: 3 objective passages/15Q/15 marks + 3 subjective passages/15Q/15 marks; verbal test: 20 marks) applies to provisionally selected candidates who did not study the opted language in Class 10th or 12th.

Strategy

How to prepare

  • 1Prelims has separate 20-minute timing per test and no minimum qualifying marks per test or aggregate — shortlisting for Mains is purely on aggregate, roughly 10 times the vacancies. Practise each section against the clock.
  • 2Only Main Examination marks count for the merit list — Prelims is screening. Give Mains-level DI, puzzles and General/Financial Awareness real depth.
  • 3Reasoning Ability & Computer Aptitude carries 60 marks for 50 questions — the highest-value section in Mains.
  • 4There is 1/4 negative marking in both Prelims and Mains — attempt only when reasonably confident.
  • 5If your 10th or 12th mark sheet shows the specified opted local language, you are exempt from the Local Language Proficiency Test — keep that certificate ready.
  • 6Trained SBI apprentices (engagement started on/after 01.01.2022, one year branch experience by 27.08.2026) get 2.5% bonus marks (5 of 200) added in the Main Examination.

Answers

Frequently asked questions

Is there negative marking in SBI Clerk?

Yes, in both the Preliminary and Main Examinations — one fourth (0.25) of the marks assigned to a question is deducted for each wrong answer. There is no penalty for unattempted questions.
