All 25 Statutory & Other Bodies questions the Punjab PSC asked between 2016 and 2026, each with a worked answer and the exam it came from. First 10 free to read.
1 of these 25 were set in more than one exam — the Commission reuses this topic, which is the argument for working through it rather than skimming it.
Free to read, with the worked answer and the exam each one came from. The book prints this topic in the order the Commission favours, so these are the ones to know first.
Which of the above statement(s) is/are correct?
Which of the statement/statements given above is/are true?
select the correct answer using the codes given below:
The National Water Resources Council, set up in 1983, is chaired by the Prime Minister; the Union Minister of Water Resources is its Vice-Chairman and Chief Ministers of all States are members. It adopted the National Water Policy in 1987 and its revisions in 2002 and 2012.
NITI Aayog (National Institution for Transforming India) was set up on 1 January 2015. A resolution of the Union Cabinet created it, to replace the Planning Commission. So it is neither a constitutional body nor a statutory body. It is an executive (non-statutory) body and serves as the government's policy think-tank. The Prime Minister is its ex-officio chairperson. He appoints the Vice-Chairperson and the full-time members. Chief Ministers and Lt Governors form the Governing Council.
UIDAI was set up on 28 January 2009 as an attached office of the Planning Commission. It became a statutory authority on 12 July 2016, under the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Act, 2016. It functions under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). So statements 1 and 3 are correct. 29 September 2010 is the date on which the first Aadhaar number was issued, at Tembhli village, Nandurbar, Maharashtra, not the date of establishment. UIDAI has never been under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.
The NITI Aayog Governing Council has the Prime Minister as Chairperson, the Chief Ministers of all states, the Chief Ministers of UTs with legislatures and the Lt. Governors of the other UTs. Only a few Union Ministers nominated by the PM sit as ex-officio members, not the whole Cabinet, so statement 4 is wrong.
None of the three is a constitutional body. The National Development Council (1952) and NITI Aayog (2015) were both created by executive resolutions of the Union Cabinet. So they are non-constitutional and non-statutory. The National Human Rights Commission was set up under the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993. So it is a statutory body, not one found in the Constitution. Constitutional bodies are those the Constitution itself creates, such as the Election Commission, UPSC, CAG and the Finance Commission.
The National Cyber Coordination Centre (NCCC) is an operational cyber-security and e-surveillance agency. It scans internet traffic and communication metadata to give real-time awareness of cyber threats. It was made operational in 2017 under CERT-In, which functions under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). It is designed as a multi-stakeholder body coordinating intelligence agencies, law-enforcement and private ISPs. It has nothing to do with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, so statement 2 is wrong.
The Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers and their Rehabilitation Act was enacted in 2013 (in force from December 2013). It replaced the 1993 Act, bans manual cleaning of insanitary latrines, septic tanks and sewers without protective gear, and provides for identification and rehabilitation of manual scavengers.
The National Startup Advisory Council is chaired by the Union Commerce and Industry Minister. It was set up in January 2020 by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) to advise the government on building a strong start-up ecosystem.
Maharashtra was the first State to establish the institution of Lokayukta, under the Maharashtra Lokayukta and Upa-Lokayuktas Act, 1971. Odisha had passed a Lokpal and Lokayukta Act in 1970 but brought it into force only in 1983, which is why Maharashtra is credited as the first. The Lokayukta was recommended by the First Administrative Reforms Commission (1966–70).
The Cabinet Secretary chairs the National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC), with the Secretaries of the concerned ministries as members. It coordinates the Central response to a major disaster and oversees the Crisis Management Groups. The Prime Minister chairs the NDMA, and the Union Home Secretary chairs the National Executive Committee.

Yes. 1 of these 25 were set in more than one exam, which is why they are worth working rather than reading. Each question here carries a badge showing how many sittings asked it.
Here. Every question on this page is a solved MCQ: the four options as printed, the correct answer, and a worked explanation in plain English — not just a letter. The rest of the 25 are in the book, in the same form.
Switch to Attempt mode at the top of the questions. You get one question at a time and it is marked the moment you pick an option, with the reason underneath — the same way the exam feels, on your phone.
The questions are on screen rather than in a downloadable file, so they stay current and correct. The printed book has all 25 of these plus the rest of the General Knowledge section, and every buyer gets the whole thing online as well.
The exams behind these questions, most first. A paper here is a sitting: a question set in two papers of the same sitting counts once.
