ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਵਿਚ ਦੋ ਬਾਰਹਮਾਹ ਹਨ। ਬਾਰਹਮਾਹ ਮਾਝ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜਨ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਹੈ (ਮਾਝ ਰਾਗ, 'ਕਿਰਤਿ ਕਰਮ ਕੇ ਵੀਛੁੜੇ')। ਬਾਰਹਮਾਹ ਤੁਖਾਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਹੈ (ਤੁਖਾਰੀ ਰਾਗ, 'ਤੂ ਸੁਣਿ ਕਿਰਤ ਕਰੰਮਾ')। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਕ੍ਰਮਵਾਰ ਸਹੀ ਜੋੜਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜਨ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਜਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ ਜੀ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਬਾਰਹਮਾਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
'ਗਗਨ ਮੈ ਥਾਲ' ਨਾਟਕਕਾਰ ਬਲਵੰਤ ਗਾਰਗੀ ਦੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਹੈ। 'ਮੇਰਾ ਪਿੰਡ' ਗਿਆਨੀ ਗੁਰਦਿੱਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੀ ਵਾਰਤਕ ਹੈ, 'ਰਸੀਦੀ ਟਿਕਟ' ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਦੀ ਸਵੈ-ਜੀਵਨੀ ਅਤੇ 'ਨੰਗੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਫ਼ਰ' ਦਲੀਪ ਕੌਰ ਟਿਵਾਣਾ ਦੀ ਸਵੈ-ਜੀਵਨੀ ਹੈ। > A–4, B–1, C–2, D–3 ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਹੀ ਕੋਡ 4-1-2-3 ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਇਰਿਸ਼ ਮੂਲ ਦੀ ਨੋਰਾ ਰਿਚਰਡਸ (1876–1971) ਨੂੰ 'ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਨਾਟਕ ਦੀ ਨੱਕੜ ਦਾਦੀ' ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਨੇ 1911 ਤੋਂ ਲਾਹੌਰ ਦੇ ਦਿਆਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਕਾਲਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਾਟਕ ਲਿਖਣ ਤੇ ਖੇਡਣ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਿਆ; ਈਸ਼ਵਰ ਚੰਦਰ ਨੰਦਾ ਦਾ 'ਦੁਲਹਨ' ਉਸੇ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨਾ ਨਾਲ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਗਿਆ। ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਅੰਦਰੇਟਾ (ਕਾਂਗੜਾ) ਵਿਖੇ ਰੰਗਮੰਚ ਦੀ ਸਾਧਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ। ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਤੇ ਦਲੀਪ ਕੌਰ ਟਿਵਾਣਾ ਲੇਖਿਕਾਵਾਂ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਾ ਸ਼ੇਰਗਿੱਲ ਚਿੱਤਰਕਾਰ ਸੀ।
‘ਅੱਜ ਆਖਾਂ ਵਾਰਿਸ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਨੂੰ’ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਕਵਿਤਾ ਹੈ। ਇਹ 1947 ਦੀ ਵੰਡ ਦੇ ਦੁਖਾਂਤ ਉੱਤੇ ਲਿਖੀ ਗਈ। ਇਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਵਿੱਤਰੀ ‘ਹੀਰ’ ਦੇ ਰਚੇਤਾ ਵਾਰਿਸ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਕਬਰ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਬੋਲਣ ਲਈ ਪੁਕਾਰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਨੂੰ ‘ਕਾਗ਼ਜ਼ ਤੇ ਕੈਨਵਸ’ ਲਈ 1981 ਵਿੱਚ ਗਿਆਨਪੀਠ ਪੁਰਸਕਾਰ ਮਿਲਿਆ। ਨਾਨਕ ਸਿੰਘ ਅਤੇ ਦਲੀਪ ਕੌਰ ਟਿਵਾਣਾ ਨਾਵਲਕਾਰ ਹਨ। ਸ਼ਿਵ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਬਟਾਲਵੀ ‘ਲੂਣਾ’ ਦੇ ਕਵੀ ਹਨ।
'ਬਾਪੂ ਦੇ ਕੰਨ ਵਿਚ ਬੇਬੇ ਵੜ ਗਈ' ਇੱਕ ਬੁਝਾਰਤ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਉੱਤਰ ਹੈ ਜਿੰਦਰਾ ਤੇ ਕੁੰਜੀ। ਬੁਝਾਰਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਿਸੇ ਚੀਜ਼ ਨੂੰ ਲੁਕਵੇਂ, ਅਲੰਕਾਰਿਕ ਢੰਗ ਨਾਲ ਬਿਆਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸੁਣਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਤੋਂ ਬੁਝਵਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ; ਇੱਥੇ ਜਿੰਦਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਪਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ ਬਾਪੂ-ਬੇਬੇ ਦੀ ਤਸਵੀਰ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਅਲਾਹੁਣੀ ਮੌਤ ਵੇਲੇ ਦਾ ਵੈਣ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮੁਹਾਵਰਾ ਵਾਕ ਦਾ ਅੰਸ਼ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪੂਰਾ ਵਾਕ ਨਹੀਂ। ਟੋਟਕਾ ਟੂਣੇ-ਟਾਮਣ ਜਾਂ ਹਾਸੇ-ਠੱਠੇ ਵਾਲੀ ਛੋਟੀ ਤੁਕ ਨੂੰ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੁਝ ਬੁੱਝਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ।
ਯੋਧਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਬੀਰਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਲਿਖੀ ਬਿਰਤਾਂਤਕ (ਕਹਾਣੀ-ਨੁਮਾ) ਕਵਿਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਰ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਵੇਂ 'ਚੰਡੀ ਦੀ ਵਾਰ', 'ਨਾਦਰ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੀ ਵਾਰ' (ਨਜਾਬਤ)। ਘੋੜੀ ਵਿਆਹ ਵੇਲੇ ਲਾੜੇ ਲਈ ਗਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਹੈ, ਅਲਾਹੁਣੀ ਮਰਗ ਵੇਲੇ ਦਾ ਸੋਗ-ਗੀਤ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ 'ਪਿਤਾ-ਪੁਰਖੀ' ਕੋਈ ਕਾਵਿ-ਰੂਪ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਇਹ ਸਤਰਾਂ ਵਿਆਹ ਵੇਲੇ ਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਕੁੜੀ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਕੁੜੀਆਂ ਇਹ ਜਾਂਞੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਪੱਤਲ ਬੰਨ੍ਹਣ ਵੇਲੇ ਗਾਉਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ—'ਜਾਂਞੀਓ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਬੰਨ੍ਹ 'ਤੇ ਥੋਡੇ ਥਾਲ' ਅਤੇ 'ਖੋਲ੍ਹੇ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਜੇ ਖਾਓਗੇ ਖਾਣਾ ਦੇਊ ਸਰਾਪ'। ਜਾਂਞੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੁਝਾਰਤ ਬੁੱਝ ਕੇ ਜਾਂ ਛੰਦ ਸੁਣਾ ਕੇ ਪੱਤਲ ਖੁੱਲ੍ਹਵਾਉਣੀ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਲੋਕ-ਕਾਵਿ ਵਿਚ ਇਸ ਰੂਪ ਨੂੰ 'ਪੱਤਲ' ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। 'ਥਾਲ' ਕੁੜੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਖਿੱਦੋ ਵਾਲੀ ਖੇਡ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਹੈ। 'ਛੰਦ ਪਰਾਗੇ' ਲਾੜਾ ਸਾਲੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ। 'ਰੁੱਤ ਗੀਤ' ਮੌਸਮਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੇ ਗੀਤ ਹਨ।
'ਨਿੱਕੜੀ ਸੂਈ ਵਿੱਚ ਟੁੰਬਾਂ ਧਾਗਾ' ਇੱਕ ਸੁਹਾਗ ਹੈ। ਸੁਹਾਗ ਵਿਆਹ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਕੁੜੀ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਗਾਏ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਲੋਕ-ਗੀਤ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਧੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਬਾਬਲ ਅੱਗੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਰ-ਘਰ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਘੋੜੀਆਂ ਮੁੰਡੇ ਦੇ ਵਿਆਹ ਵੇਲੇ, ਲੋਰੀਆਂ ਬੱਚੇ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਲਾਉਣ ਵੇਲੇ ਅਤੇ ਬੋਲੀਆਂ ਗਿੱਧੇ-ਭੰਗੜੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਗਾਈਆਂ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
