ਛਪਣ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੱਥ ਨਾਲ ਲਿਖੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਜਾਂ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਨੂੰ ‘ਖਰੜਾ’ (manuscript) ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ‘ਸਵੈ-ਜੀਵਨੀ’ ਆਪਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਕਹਾਣੀ, ‘ਜੀਵਨੀ’ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਬਿਰਤਾਂਤ ਅਤੇ ‘ਡਾਇਰੀ’ ਰੋਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਲਿਖੀ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਨਿੱਜੀ ਲਿਖਤ ਹੈ।
