72nd National Film Awards Announced: 'Article 370' Named Best Feature Film

The jury of the 72nd National Film Awards announced the winners for the year 2024 on 18 July 2026 in New Delhi, recognising excellence across feature films, non-feature films and writing on cinema. The announcement was made by Jayaraj (Chairperson, Feature Film Jury), Aseem Sinha (Chairperson, Non-Feature Film Jury) and A. Chandrasekhar (Chairperson, Best Writing on Cinema Jury). Key winners: Best Feature Film — Article 370, directed by Aditya Suhas Jambhale. The film also won Best Actress and Best Music Direction. Best Actor (jointly) — Mammootty for the Malayalam horror drama Bramayugam, and Kartik Aaryan for the Hindi sports biopic Chandu Champion. This is Mammootty's 4th National Film Award, after Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha and Mathilukal (1989), Ponthan Mada and Vidheyan (1994), and Dr. Ambedkar (1999). Best Actress — Yami Gautam for Article 370 — her first-ever National Film Award. Best Direction — Rajkumar Periyasamy for the Tamil film Amaran. Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment — Kalki 2898 AD, directed by Nag Ashwin. Best Debut Film of a Director — Randeep Hooda for Swatantrya Veer Savarkar. Best Non-Feature Film — Bhangaar; Best Documentary — Ram-Nami. Winners receive the Rajat Kamal (Silver Lotus) and a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh in the acting categories.

SBI Named Global Finance's World's Best Consumer Bank 2026 for the Second Consecutive Year

State Bank of India was named World's Best Consumer Bank 2026 by Global Finance magazine for the second year in a row, and also won Best Bank in India 2026. Chairman Challa Sreenivasulu Setty received the awards at the World's Best Bank Awards ceremony held alongside the IMF Annual Meetings 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand. The recognition cited SBI's revamped YONO platform, which has crossed 10 crore registered users. Other winners included Banco Santander of Spain as World's Best Bank, DBS Bank of Singapore as World's Best Corporate Bank, BBVA as Best Emerging Markets Bank and Ecobank of Togo as Best Frontier Markets Bank.

Israel to Honour Indian Pilot Smit Machchhar With Its Highest Civilian Bravery Award

Israeli President Isaac Herzog announced that Captain Smit Machchhar, an Indian pilot flying for flydubai, will receive the Presidential Award for Civilian Heroism - Israel's highest civilian bravery honour - for resisting a mid-flight cockpit attack by his co-pilot and saving 174 passengers and crew. The co-pilot, an Omani national, allegedly attacked him with a crash axe. Machchhar has over 9,750 flying hours on Boeing aircraft and spent over 11 years at SpiceJet as Senior Commander and Line Training Captain before joining flydubai in June 2022. Robert E. Hall and Michael Woodford Win the 2026 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences awarded the 2026 Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel to Robert E.
