Akasa Air Operates Its First Commercial Flight on a 1% Sustainable Aviation Fuel Blend
Akasa Air operated its first commercial flight using conventional Aviation Turbine Fuel blended with 1% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) supplied by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) in September 2026. The flight ran from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai, to Manohar International Airport, Goa. It follows an MoU the two signed in July 2026 to build a framework for the supply and offtake of SAF-blended ATF at designated Indian airports. The step supports India's target of 5% SAF blending by 2030 and global aviation's net-zero by 2050 goal. Akasa Air, founded in 2021, is led by MD and CEO Vinay Dube.
