India Beat Malaysia 5-1 to Retain the Asian Games Men's Hockey Gold
India's men's hockey team beat Malaysia 5-1 in the 2026 Asian Games final on 3 October, retaining the title won at Hangzhou in 2023 — the first time India has successfully defended an Asian Games hockey gold. Harmanpreet Singh scored twice, with Jugraj Singh, Hardik Singh (penalty stroke) and Shilanand Lakra adding one each. It is India's fifth Asian Games hockey title and books a direct berth at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Harmanpreet became the first Indian captain with two Asian Games golds and Manpreet Singh the only Indian player with three, as India took both hockey golds at a single edition.
