The 2026 Fields Medal, mathematics' highest honour, was awarded to four mathematicians at the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) held in Philadelphia, USA on 23 July 2026: Yu Deng (University of Chicago), John Pardon (Stony Brook University), Jacob Tsimerman (University of Toronto), and Hong Wang (NYU/IHES). Hong Wang - recognised for advances in Fourier restriction and the Kakeya problem in three dimensions - became only the third woman to win the medal in its 90-year history, after Maryam Mirzakhani (2014) and Maryna Viazovska (2022). Wang and Deng are also the first Chinese nationals to win since 1982. The Fields Medal is awarded by the International Mathematical Union (IMU) every four years to mathematicians under 40.

The jury of the 72nd National Film Awards announced the winners for the year 2024 on 18 July 2026 in New Delhi, recognising excellence across feature films, non-feature films and writing on cinema. The announcement was made by Jayaraj (Chairperson, Feature Film Jury), Aseem Sinha (Chairperson, Non-Feature Film Jury) and A. Chandrasekhar (Chairperson, Best Writing on Cinema Jury). Gujarat's Unjha Cumin and Fennel Receive GI Tags

The Geographical Indications Registry (GIR), under the DPIIT (Ministry of Commerce and Industry), granted GI tags to two Gujarat agricultural products — Unjha Cumin (Jeera) and Unjha Fennel (Saunf), both from the Unjha region in north Gujarat. With this, Gujarat's list of GI-tagged agricultural products expands to 6 (joining Gir Kesar mangoes, Bhalia wheat, Kachchhi Kharek and Amalsadi chikoo). Unjha (Mehsana district) is India's largest fennel-producing region and one of Asia's largest fennel trading hubs. NABARD has facilitated GI registration of 28 new products, taking its total to 176.
