Glaw Lake in Arunachal Pradesh Becomes India's 101st Ramsar Site
The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) designated Glaw Lake in the Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh as India's 101st Ramsar Site (Wetland of International Importance), making it Arunachal Pradesh's first Ramsar Site. Glaw Lake is a pristine freshwater lake in the Eastern Himalayas, located within the Kamlang Tiger Reserve and Wildlife Sanctuary and fed by perennial mountain streams. Its catchment hosts over 150 tree species and 49 orchid species. India's Ramsar tally rose from 26 sites in 2014 to 101 in 2026. The Ramsar Convention on Wetlands was signed in 1971 in Ramsar, Iran; India's Environment Minister is Bhupender Yadav.
