India and Bhutan Sign Rs 4,000 Crore Concessional Line of Credit

On 31 July 2026, India and Bhutan signed a concessional Line of Credit (LoC) worth Rs 4,000 crore (Nu 40 billion) during the Fifth India-Bhutan Development Cooperation Talks in Thimphu. The agreement was exchanged between the Export-Import (EXIM) Bank of India and Bhutan's Ministry of Finance. The LoC is aligned with Bhutan's 13th Five-Year Plan (2024-29) and is earmarked mainly for energy (hydropower) projects. The Indian delegation was led by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri. A separate MoU between AIIMS New Delhi and Bhutan's KGUMSB was signed for medical research and exchange.

Nathu La Border Trade with China to Resume from 1 August After Six Years

Sarnath Inscribed as India's 45th UNESCO World Heritage Site

The Ancient Buddhist Site of Sarnath in Uttar Pradesh was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List during the 48th session of the World Heritage Committee held in Busan, Republic of Korea (19-29 July 2026), with the inscription announced on 25 July 2026. With this addition, India now has 45 UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Located near Varanasi, Sarnath is where the Buddha delivered his first sermon (the Dhammachakra Pravartana).
