India and Bhutan signed a concessional Line of Credit (LoC) worth Rs 4,000 crore (Nu 40 billion) during the Fifth India-Bhutan Development Cooperation Talks in Thimphu on 31 July 2026. The agreement was signed between the Export-Import (Exim) Bank of India and Bhutan's Ministry of Finance to support infrastructure and development projects. Bhutan is India's closest bilateral partner, sharing a 699 km border; its currency, the Ngultrum, is pegged to the Indian Rupee. India provides Bhutan hydropower support, free transit access and development assistance. Bhutan's capital is Thimphu and its PM is Tshering Tobgay (titled Lyonchhen).

Sarnath Inscribed as India's 45th UNESCO World Heritage Site

The Ancient Buddhist Site of Sarnath in Uttar Pradesh was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List during the 48th session of the World Heritage Committee held in Busan, Republic of Korea (19-29 July 2026), with the inscription announced on 25 July 2026. With this addition, India now has 45 UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Located near Varanasi, Sarnath is where the Buddha delivered his first sermon (the Dhammachakra Pravartana).
