Iran and Oman reached agreement on 15 August 2026 on a shipping route map for traffic through the Strait of Hormuz — the narrow chokepoint linking the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman and Arabian Sea, lying between Iran's southern coast and Oman's Musandam Peninsula. The technical plan, negotiated since an 18 June 2026 MoU on safe navigation, involves Iran's defence, security and environmental authorities alongside Omani counterparts; Iran said full normalisation depends on the US lifting its naval blockade.
