Indian Oil Approves Rs 2,449 Crore Kochi-Kanyakumari-Thoothukudi Natural Gas Pipeline
Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) approved an investment of Rs 2,448.70 crore for the Kochi-Kanyakumari-Thoothukudi Natural Gas Pipeline on 21 September 2026. The pipeline will run 424.65 km, extending the existing Kochi-Kanyakumari trunk line into Thoothukudi in Tamil Nadu and deepening gas access across southern Kerala and Tamil Nadu. It supports India's target of raising the share of natural gas in the primary energy mix to about 15% by 2030, from roughly 6% now, and feeds city gas distribution, fertiliser and industrial demand in the south. The project strengthens the National Gas Grid, which is regulated by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB).
