Modi and Xi Jinping Hold Bilateral Talks in New Delhi, Back a 'Fair and Reasonable' Boundary Settlement
Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted Chinese President Xi Jinping for bilateral talks in New Delhi on 13 September 2026, on the margins of the 18th BRICS Summit - Xi's first visit to India in seven years. The two sides agreed to work towards a fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable settlement of the boundary question and to normalise ties by expanding trade and investment, continuing the thaw that began after the eastern Ladakh standoff. The meeting followed the New Delhi Declaration adopted on 12 September, and sat alongside Modi's bilaterals with Vladimir Putin and Iran's Masoud Pezeshkian.
