Bhupender Yadav Releases Implementation Guidelines for National Coastal Mission 2.0
Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav released the implementation guidelines for National Coastal Mission (NCM) 2.0 in New Delhi on 2 October 2026. The Central Sector scheme carries an outlay of Rs 767 crore — nearly nine times the Rs 87 crore of NCM 1.0 — and runs to 2030-31, covering nine coastal states and four Union Territories. It funds vulnerability assessment, ecosystem restoration, pollution control, biodiversity conservation, coastal tourism, marine spatial planning and capacity building. NCM is one of the missions under the National Action Plan on Climate Change, and sits alongside the shore-power and blue-bond financing India has been rolling out at its ports.
The National Action Plan on Climate Change was launched in 2008 and originally had eight missions | India has a coastline of about 11,098 km under the revised 2023-24 measurement by the Survey of India | Coastal Regulation Zone notifications are issued under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986
