The National Biodiversity Authority (NBA) cumulative Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS) disbursement reached Rs 182.5 crore, of which Rs 116.22 crore was released in the past 12 months - reflecting accelerating enforcement of the benefit-sharing provisions of the Biological Diversity Act, 2002. ABS ensures gains from the use of biological resources and associated traditional knowledge are fairly shared, often with local communities. The NBA is a statutory body headquartered in Chennai.
