NCB's Operation Trident Dismantles International Narco-Cartel Across Three North-Eastern States
The Narcotics Control Bureau ran Operation Trident on 23 October 2026, deploying 38 teams that struck 38 locations simultaneously across Assam, Mizoram and Manipur to break an international drug-trafficking network. The operation traced about Rs 100 crore in hawala transactions, froze 1,424 bank accounts, attached assets worth Rs 17.82 crore and led to 18 arrests. Union Home Minister Amit Shah called it a major blow to the narco-cartel and restated the government's zero-tolerance drug policy. The action fits the Centre's wider internal-security push, including the Prahaar counter-terror strategy conference and the new CAPF Act, 2026, and targets the Golden Triangle route into the North East.
The Narcotics Control Bureau was set up on 17 March 1986 under the NDPS Act, 1985 and works under the Ministry of Home Affairs | The Golden Triangle comprises Myanmar, Laos and Thailand, while the Golden Crescent comprises Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan | India shares a 1,643-km border with Myanmar, touching Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur and Mizoram
