Qualcomm and Amazon Announce a USD 60 Billion-Plus Partnership for Custom AI Chips in AWS Data Centres
Qualcomm Technologies and Amazon announced a partnership worth over USD 60 billion to develop customised AI chips for Amazon Web Services (AWS) data centres, centred on AI inference and high-speed optical connectivity. The agreement was signed by Qualcomm President and CEO Cristiano Amon and AWS Vice President Prasad Kalyanaraman. It covers multi-generation chip development using Qualcomm's SerDes and optical digital signal processing technologies, with optical connectivity supporting data transfer rates up to 1.6 terabits per second. In return, Qualcomm will use AWS services such as Amazon Bedrock for electronic design automation workloads, shortening its own chip development cycles through cloud-based, AI-enabled design.
