Reliance Industries and Rolls-Royce Partner on India's AMCA Fighter Engine

Reliance Industries and Rolls-Royce announced a strategic partnership on 14 August 2026 to design, develop and manufacture an indigenous combat aircraft engine in India, linked to the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) — India's fifth-generation stealth fighter programme. The companies may set up an Aerospace Gas Turbine Complex in India covering the full engine lifecycle (design, development, manufacturing, testing, maintenance); financial terms were not disclosed. Rolls-Royce (UK) brings propulsion technology, Reliance brings manufacturing scale; Safran (France) is separately linked with DRDO's Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE) on a rival high-thrust AMCA engine proposal. In May 2026 the Government of India had earmarked ₹15,000 crore for the next-generation fighter jet programme.

SDAL Delivers the Indigenous Nagastra 2 Anti-Tank Loitering Munition to the Indian Army

Solar Defence and Aerospace Limited (SDAL), a subsidiary of Solar Industries India Limited, delivered the indigenous Nagastra 2 anti-tank loitering munition to the Indian Army. A man-portable kamikaze UAV built for short-range strikes, it carries a 4 kg tandem shaped-charge warhead that can penetrate up to 650 mm of rolled homogeneous armour, with a range of 25 km in recover-and-reuse mode and 50 km in fire-and-forget mode. The system cleared technical trials at the Mahajan Field Firing Range in Rajasthan in August 2026, including compliance with electronic counter-countermeasure (ECCM) parameters, giving it resilience against enemy electronic warfare.

MoD Signs Rs 770 Crore Contract with BEL for Improved Low-Level Light-Weight Radars for the Army

The Ministry of Defence signed a contract worth about Rs 770 crore with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) in New Delhi on 21 October 2026 for the Improved Low-Level Light-Weight Radar (LLLR-I) for the Indian Army. The radar is an upgraded version of DRDO's Aslesha system, designed by the Electronics and Radar Development Establishment (LRDE) and manufactured by BEL. It uses four fixed GaN-based AESA panels to give 360-degree coverage without a rotating antenna, and is meant to detect low-flying aircraft, drones and cruise missiles in mountainous and desert terrain. Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh attended the signing.

33rd Edition of the Singapore-India Maritime Bilateral Exercise SIMBEX-2026 Begins at Visakhapatnam

The 33rd edition of the Singapore-India Maritime Bilateral Exercise (SIMBEX-2026) began at Visakhapatnam on 21 October 2026 and runs for six days to 26 October. The opening ceremony was held aboard the Indian Navy's INS Nilgiri and INS Kamorta, with the Republic of Singapore Navy represented by RSS Supreme, a Formidable-class stealth frigate, which arrived the same day. The drill has a harbour phase at Visakhapatnam followed by a sea phase in the Bay of Bengal covering anti-submarine, anti-air and surface warfare serials. SIMBEX is India's longest uninterrupted naval exercise with any foreign navy, running since 1994.
