Tamil Nadu Renames CM Breakfast Scheme as Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Breakfast Scheme
The Tamil Nadu government renamed the Chief Minister's Breakfast Scheme as the Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Breakfast Scheme via a government order issued on 15 July 2026 - the birth anniversary of K. Kamaraj. The scheme, earlier for Classes I-V, is being expanded to middle-school students (Classes VI-VIII) in government and aided schools, benefiting an additional ~15.1 lakh students at an estimated Rs 343.55 crore. The expanded programme is set to launch on 17 September, the birth anniversary of social reformer Periyar E. V. Ramasamy.
