World Cerebral Palsy Day Observed on 6 October 2026
World Cerebral Palsy Day was observed on 6 October 2026 under the theme 'Unique and United', to raise awareness of cerebral palsy and press for inclusion. Cerebral palsy is a group of permanent, non-progressive neurological disorders affecting movement, posture, muscle tone and coordination, usually caused by damage to the developing brain before, during or shortly after birth; it is the commonest motor disability of childhood. The day was designated by the Cerebral Palsy Alliance in 2012, growing out of the Australian campaign 'Change My World in One Minute'. It falls in the same early-October observance cluster as World Habitat Day and World Teachers' Day.
The Cerebral Palsy Alliance, headquartered in Sydney, Australia, began the World Cerebral Palsy Day movement in 2012 | India's Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 recognises 21 disabilities including cerebral palsy, replacing the 1995 Act's list of seven | The National Trust for the Welfare of Persons with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation and Multiple Disabilities was set up by an Act of 1999
