World Habitat Day 2026 Observed on 5 October with 'Adequate Housing for All' as Its Theme
World Habitat Day was observed on 5 October 2026, the first Monday of October, on the theme 'Adequate Housing for All', with the global observance hosted at Muscat, Oman. UN-Habitat used the day to restate housing as a human right, noting that about 3.4 billion people worldwide still lack adequate housing. The day was created by UN General Assembly resolution 40/202 of December 1985 and first observed in 1986 at Nairobi. It opens Urban October, a month of events on sustainable urbanisation that closes with World Cities Day on 31 October, and feeds into the New Urban Agenda review.
