1228.(B) 1, 3 and 4 only

Under Article 356 the state council of ministers is dismissed and the President takes over the state executive. So removal of the council (2) is a necessary consequence. The assembly need not be dissolved; it may only be suspended (1). Local bodies are untouched (3). Parliament is never dissolved — instead it exercises the state's legislative powers (4). So 1, 3 and 4 are not necessarily consequences.

1229.(B) Dr. B.R. Ambedkar

Dr. B.R. Ambedkar chaired the Drafting Committee of the Constituent Assembly. In the Assembly debates he defended the emergency provisions. He hoped Article 356 would remain a 'dead letter' and be used only as a last resort. He called it a 'safety valve' against a breakdown of constitutional machinery in a state. Dr. Rajendra Prasad presided over the Constituent Assembly. Nehru chaired the Union Powers Committee. Patel chaired the Provincial Constitution Committee.

1230.(B) 1, 3 and 4

The Constitution provides three kinds of emergency. A National Emergency under Article 352 covers war, external aggression or armed rebellion. President's Rule under Article 356 covers failure of the constitutional machinery in a state. A Financial Emergency under Article 360 covers threats to financial stability. The 44th Amendment (1978) replaced 'internal disturbance' with 'armed rebellion' as a ground for national emergency. So mere internal disturbance (statement 2) is no longer a ground.

1231.(A) I, III and IV

During a National Emergency the Centre can direct any State on the use of its executive power (Article 353); the President can by order under Article 359 suspend the right to move the courts for Fundamental Rights, except Articles 20 and 21 (this exception was added by the 44th Amendment, 1978); and the President can by order under Article 354 alter the sharing of revenues between the Centre and the States. So I, III and IV are correct. Statement II is wrong: it is Parliament, by law, that extends the term of the Lok Sabha a year at a time, not the President.

1232.(B) The satisfaction of President in declaring the Financial Emergency is beyond Judicial Review.

Statement (b) is the false one. The 38th Amendment had made the President's satisfaction final and conclusive. The 44th Amendment of 1978 deleted that clause. So a proclamation of Financial Emergency is open to judicial review. Article 360 does provide for such a proclamation. Once both Houses approve it, it runs on with no maximum period and no repeated approval. It can be revoked at any time by a fresh proclamation, and that needs no parliamentary sanction. No Financial Emergency has ever been declared in India.

Common questions about Emergency Provisions in PPSC

How many Emergency Provisions questions come in PPSC exams?

The Commission set 5 Emergency Provisions questions across 12 papers between 2017–2026. That is the whole set, not a sample — every one of them is in the book, and the 5 most-asked are on this page free.

Are PPSC Emergency Provisions questions repeated?

Not in this set — each of these 5 was set once in the years covered. Questions elsewhere in the book do repeat, and carry a badge saying how often.

Where can I get Emergency Provisions MCQs with answers and solutions?

Here. Every question on this page is a solved MCQ: the four options as printed, the correct answer, and a worked explanation in plain English — not just a letter. The rest of the 5 are in the book, in the same form.

Can I practice these Emergency Provisions questions online?

Switch to Attempt mode at the top of the questions. You get one question at a time and it is marked the moment you pick an option, with the reason underneath — the same way the exam feels, on your phone.

Is a PDF available?

The questions are on screen rather than in a downloadable file, so they stay current and correct. The printed book has all 5 of these plus the rest of the General Knowledge section, and every buyer gets the whole thing online as well.

Which papers asked Emergency Provisions

The exams behind these questions, most first. A paper here is a sitting: a question set in two papers of the same sitting counts once.
