ਹਰ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦਾ ਵਿਰੋਧਾਰਥਕ ਜੋੜਾ ਲੱਭੋ: ਸੰਜੋਗ ↔ ਵਿਜੋਗ (III), ਸਾਕਾਰ ↔ ਨਿਰਾਕਾਰ (IV), ਆਉਂਦੇ ↔ ਜਾਂਦੇ (II), ਅਗਾੜੀ ↔ ਪਿਛਾੜੀ (I)। ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਿਲਾਨ A-III, B-IV, C-II, D-I ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
'ਸੱਖਣਾ' ਦਾ ਅਰਥ ਖ਼ਾਲੀ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਵਿਰੋਧਾਰਥਕ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਭਰਿਆ ਹੈ। 'ਖਾਲੀ' ਤਾਂ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਸਮਾਨਾਰਥਕ ਹੈ, ਜਦੋਂ ਕਿ 'ਰੱਖਣਾ' ਅਤੇ 'ਅੰਤਰਾ' ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਧੁਨੀ ਪੱਖੋਂ ਮਿਲਦੇ-ਜੁਲਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਹਨ।
'ਆਭਾਪੂਰਨ' ਦਾ ਅਰਥ ਹੈ ਆਭਾ (ਚਮਕ) ਨਾਲ ਭਰਪੂਰ; ਇਸ ਦਾ ਵਿਰੋਧਾਰਥਕ ਧੁੰਦਲਾ (ਚਮਕ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣਾ, ਮੱਧਮ) ਹੈ। 'ਚਮਕੀਲਾ' ਅਤੇ 'ਉਜਲਾ' ਤਾਂ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਸਮਾਨਾਰਥਕ ਹਨ; 'ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ਹਾਲ' ਦਾ ਸੰਬੰਧ ਧਨ-ਦੌਲਤ ਨਾਲ ਹੈ, ਚਮਕ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ।
'ਆਚਾਰ' (ਚਾਲ-ਚਲਣ) ਅਤੇ 'ਵਿਹਾਰ' (ਵਰਤੋਂ-ਵਿਹਾਰ) ਉਲਟ ਨਹੀਂ, ਸਗੋਂ ਮਿਲਦੇ-ਜੁਲਦੇ ਅਰਥਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਹਨ, ਜੋ ਆਚਾਰ-ਵਿਹਾਰ ਵਜੋਂ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਬੋਲੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਸੰਘਣਾ/ਵਿਰਲਾ, ਗੂੜ੍ਹਾ/ਫਿੱਕਾ ਅਤੇ ਤਿੱਖਾ/ਖੁੰਢਾ ਸਹੀ ਵਿਰੋਧੀ ਜੁੱਟ ਹਨ।
'ਖੱਬਾ' ਦਾ ਉਲਟ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਸੱਜਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ 'ਸ' ਉੱਤੇ ਅੱਧਕ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ। ਅੱਧਕ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾਂ 'ਸਜਾ' ਦਾ ਅਰਥ ਸਜਾਉਣ ਵੱਲ ਚਲਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ; 'ਸੰਜਾ' ਅਤੇ 'ਸਜਾੱ' ਅਸ਼ੁੱਧ ਰੂਪ ਹਨ।
ਵਿਰੋਧੀ ਸ਼ਬਦ: ਸਲਾਹੁਣਾ (ਵਡਿਆਈ ਕਰਨੀ) ↔ ਭੰਡਣਾ (IV); ਉੱਣਾ (ਖ਼ਾਲੀ, ਅਧੂਰਾ) ↔ ਭਰਿਆ (II); ਹਮਾਇਤੀ (ਪੱਖ ਪੂਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ) ↔ ਵਿਰੋਧੀ (I)। ਇਸ ਲਈ A-IV, B-II, C-I। 'ਸੁਲਝਣਾ' ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦਾ ਵਿਰੋਧੀ ਨਹੀਂ (ਉਸ ਦਾ ਵਿਰੋਧੀ 'ਉਲਝਣਾ' ਹੁੰਦਾ)।
'ਅਲਪ' ਦਾ ਅਰਥ ਹੈ ਥੋੜ੍ਹਾ ਜਾਂ ਘੱਟ; ਇਸ ਦਾ ਵਿਰੋਧੀ ਸ਼ਬਦ 'ਅਧਿਕ' (ਵੱਧ, ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾ) ਹੈ। ਬਾਕੀ ਤਿੰਨੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ—ਘੱਟ, ਊਣਾ, ਸੱਖਣਾ—'ਅਲਪ' ਦੇ ਸਮਾਨਾਰਥਕ ਜਾਂ ਨੇੜਲੇ ਅਰਥ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ, ਵਿਰੋਧੀ ਨਹੀਂ।
'ਕੁਟਿਲ' ਦਾ ਅਰਥ ਹੈ ਟੇਢਾ, ਕਪਟੀ, ਛਲ-ਕਪਟ ਵਾਲਾ; ਇਸ ਦਾ ਵਿਰੋਧੀ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਸਰਲ (ਸਿੱਧਾ, ਸਾਦਾ, ਨਿਸ਼ਕਪਟ) ਹੈ। 'ਕਪਟੀ' ਅਤੇ 'ਮੱਕਾਰ' ਤਾਂ ਕੁਟਿਲ ਦੇ ਸਮਾਨਾਰਥੀ ਹਨ, ਅਤੇ 'ਦੁੱਭਰ' ਦਾ ਅਰਥ ਔਖਾ/ਭਾਰਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਇਸ ਨਾਲ ਕੋਈ ਸੰਬੰਧ ਨਹੀਂ।
'ਦਾਤਾ' ਦਾ ਅਰਥ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਉਲਟ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਮੰਗਤਾ (ਮੰਗਣ ਵਾਲਾ) ਹੈ। 'ਗ਼ਰੀਬ' ਦਾ ਉਲਟ 'ਅਮੀਰ' ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, 'ਦਾਤਾ' ਨਹੀਂ।
‘ਤੋਕੜ’ ਉਹ ਗਾਂ ਜਾਂ ਮੱਝ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੂਏ ਨੂੰ ਲੰਮਾ ਸਮਾਂ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੋਵੇ। ਦੁੱਧ ਵੀ ਘਟ ਗਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਦਾ ਵਿਰੋਧੀ ਸ਼ਬਦ ‘ਸੱਜਰ’ ਹੈ, ਭਾਵ ਨਵੀਂ ਸੂਈ, ਪੂਰਾ ਦੁੱਧ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ। ‘ਮੱਝ’ ਅਤੇ ‘ਊਠਣੀ’ ਪਸ਼ੂਆਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਂ ਹਨ, ਵਿਰੋਧੀ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨਹੀਂ। ‘ਸਰਦੀ’ ਦਾ ਇੱਥੇ ਕੋਈ ਸਬੰਧ ਨਹੀਂ।
