Jitendra Singh Launches 'BIO-NIVESH' to Channel Private Capital into Biotechnology Startups
Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh launched BIO-NIVESH in New Delhi in September 2026, a strategic platform connecting biotechnology startups with investors to raise private capital for innovations ready for scale-up and commercialisation. Unlike a conventional pitching event, it is designed as a two-way engagement mechanism — helping startups understand investor expectations while giving investors insight into biotechnology's scientific, regulatory and development pathways. The inaugural edition brought together 20 high-potential biotechnology and deep-tech startups and around 50 investors, selected on innovation, development stage, market potential, scalability and regulatory readiness, linking science, capital, industry and markets.
The Department of Biotechnology (DBT) was established in 1986 under the Ministry of Science and Technology | BIRAC (Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council), set up in 2012, is DBT's public sector enterprise supporting biotech startups | Startup India was launched on 16 January 2016
