Satwik-Chirag, Treesa-Gayatri Storm into BWF World Championships 2026 Quarterfinals in Delhi
At the BWF World Championships 2026 being held at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in New Delhi (17-23 August 2026), India's men's doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty advanced to the quarterfinals by beating Malaysia's Junaidi Arif and Yap Roy King. In women's doubles, the unseeded Indian pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand also reached the quarterfinals for the first time, upsetting seventh seeds Rin Iwanaga and Kie Nakanishi of Japan 21-16, 21-12. India's singles campaign ended earlier in the tournament with the exits of Lakshya Sen and P.V. Sindhu. This is India's first time hosting the BWF World Championships since 2009, and comes days after Ayush Shetty's round-of-16 upset win over world No. 1 Shi Yuqi at the same event — part of a breakout run by young Indian shuttlers on home turf this week.
