Guwahati to Host the 2028 India Open Badminton Tournament

Sanjay Mishra, Secretary General of the Badminton Association of India (BAI), announced in August 2026 that the 2028 India Open will be staged at the National Centre of Excellence (NCOE) for Badminton in Guwahati, Assam, instead of the traditional KD Jadhav Indoor Hall in New Delhi. The shift was needed because the tournament's late-January 2028 window clashes with Republic Day security arrangements in the capital; the event returns to New Delhi in 2029. The India Open is a BWF Super 750 tournament, upgraded from the 2023 season with prize money above USD 950,000. Guwahati has previously hosted the BWF World Junior Championships.
