India and the United States Hold an Undersea Cables Workshop Under the TRUST Initiative
India and the United States convened an Undersea Cables Workshop in September 2026 under the TRUST (Transforming the Relationship Utilizing Strategic Technology) Initiative, bringing government and industry experts together on protecting subsea communication infrastructure. Talks covered network resilience, repair capacity and uninterrupted digital connectivity across the Indo-Pacific, through which the overwhelming majority of intercontinental data traffic runs. The workshop advances the critical-technology pillar of the India-US partnership and runs parallel to India's engagement with the EU on cable resilience in the Indian Ocean - the same maritime-security theme behind the Colombo Security Conclave table-top exercise that ended at Visakhapatnam on 12 September.
TRUST is the India-US framework for critical and emerging technologies, standing for Transforming the Relationship Utilizing Strategic Technology | India's principal submarine cable landing stations are at Mumbai, Chennai, Cochin, Tuticorin and Trivandrum | Key Indian Ocean chokepoints are the Strait of Malacca, the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab-el-Mandeb
