Mirabai Chanu won the silver medal in the women's 49 kg weightlifting event at the Asian Games on 23 September 2026, competing at the Nagoya City Trade and Industry Center in Aichi, Japan. She lifted a total of 198 kg — 87 kg in the snatch and 111 kg in the clean and jerk. North Korea's Ri Song Gum took gold with 215 kg and Indonesia's Luluk Diana Tri Wijayana bronze with 191 kg. This is Chanu's first Asian Games medal; she finished fourth at Hangzhou 2023 after a thigh injury. It also ended India's 28-year wait for an Asian Games weightlifting medal.
