Putul Sonowal Wins Bronze to Claim India's First-Ever World Bowls Champion of Champions Medal
Putul Sonowal of Assam won bronze in men's singles at the 2026 World Bowls Champion of Champions at cluBarham, New South Wales, Australia, giving India its first-ever medal at the event. The 43-year-old topped his group with six wins from seven matches and beat Singapore's Harriman Yuen in the quarter-final, before losing the semi-final 5-8, 4-8 to Scotland's Ian McLean, the world number three. The result extends India's lawn-bowls rise since the women's fours gold at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games, and comes weeks after a strong Indian showing at the 2026 Asian Games. The event gathers national singles champions from World Bowls members.
