Tamil Nadu Announces 'Annapurnam Super Six' Free LPG Scheme and 'Vetri Payanam' Bus Travel Expansion
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay announced a welfare package in the state assembly in August 2026 under Rule 110, marking 100 days of his government. The 'Annapurnam Super Six' scheme will provide three free LPG cylinders to women from families earning up to Rs 2.5 lakh a year, small and marginal farming families and transgender families, at an annual cost of Rs 4,000 crore, benefiting about 1.30 crore families from Pongal. The 'Vetri Payanam' scheme extends fare-free bus travel for women and transgenders to express, Limited Stop Service and deluxe buses from 2 October 2026, at a cost of nearly Rs 6,000 crore a year.
