Hiroshima Day is observed annually on 6 August to commemorate the victims of the 1945 atomic bombing of Hiroshima, Japan by the United States during World War II. 2026 marks the 81st anniversary of the bombing. The first Hiroshima Day Peace Festival was held on 6 August 1947, and the annual memorial ceremony is held at the Genbaku Dome, Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. The Genbaku Dome, the only structure to survive the blast, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996.

World Water Week 2026 Observed from 23-27 August with Theme 'Water for People and Progress'

World Water Week (WWW), the leading global conference on the water crisis, was observed from 23 to 27 August 2026 under the theme 'Water for People and Progress'. Held in the last week of August, it promotes sustainable, equitable and climate-resilient water management that includes vulnerable communities.
