The United Nations observes the International Day of Friendship (World Friendship Day) annually on 30 July to promote peace, solidarity and mutual understanding. 2026 marks the 15th observance. The UN General Assembly (UNGA) proclaimed the day via Resolution A/65/L.72 in 2011, with the first UN-recognised observance on 30 July 2011. The concept originated in 1930 when Joyce Hall, founder of Hallmark Cards, proposed Friendship Day. In 1958, Dr. Ramon Artemio Bracho founded the World Friendship Crusade, and in 1988 the UN named Winnie the Pooh the World's Ambassador of Friendship.

The World Day Against Trafficking in Persons was observed globally on 30 July 2026 under the UN theme 'Trapped Behind the Scam', focusing on people trafficked into online scam and cyber-fraud operations and forced into cyber-enabled crime through coercion, debt and surveillance. International Tiger Day Observed on 29 July 2026

International Tiger Day, also called Global Tiger Day, is observed worldwide every year on 29 July to raise awareness about tiger conservation and the protection of tiger habitats. The day was established at the 2010 St. Petersburg Tiger Summit in Russia, where tiger-range countries pledged to double the wild tiger population (the TX2 goal) by 2022. India is home to the majority of the world's wild tigers and conserves them through Project Tiger (launched 1973) and the network of tiger reserves overseen by the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA).

World Hepatitis Day 2026 Observed on 28 July with Theme 'Hepatitis: Let's Break It Down'

World Hepatitis Day (WHD) is observed every year on 28 July to raise awareness about viral hepatitis and accelerate global efforts to eliminate it as a public-health threat by 2030. The 2026 theme is 'Hepatitis: Let's Break It Down'. The date marks the birth anniversary of Dr Baruch Samuel Blumberg, who discovered the Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) in 1967 (and won a Nobel Prize for it).
