282.(A) Punjab Infrastructure Development Board (PIDB)

The Punjab Infrastructure Development Board (PIDB) is the state's nodal agency for infrastructure. It was set up under the Punjab Infrastructure (Development and Regulation) Act, 2002. It plans, funds and promotes infrastructure projects, including public-private-partnership projects. The Chief Minister chairs it. It also runs the Punjab Infrastructure Development Fund, financed by the infrastructure cess. The other three names are not existing bodies. They are distractors built around the same acronym.

283.(C) The first campus was situated at Palampur

Punjab Agricultural University was set up in 1962. Its main campus has always been at Ludhiana. Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru formally opened it on 8 July 1963, when Pratap Singh Kairon was Chief Minister. P. N. Thapar was its first Vice-Chancellor. Palampur, now in Himachal Pradesh, housed only a regional campus.

284.(D) Amrit Kaur

The Rajkumari Amrit Kaur Coaching Scheme, run through the Department of Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes, Punjab, gives free coaching to SC/BC candidates for competitive examinations. It is named after Rajkumari Amrit Kaur of the Kapurthala royal family, a close associate of Gandhi who became independent India's first Health Minister (1947–57) and founded AIIMS. Amrita Sher-Gil was a painter and Sophia Duleep Singh a suffragette in Britain.

285.(B) Ludhiana (Punjab)

The Central Institute of Post-Harvest Engineering and Technology (CIPHET), an ICAR institute set up in 1989, is located at Ludhiana, Punjab, with a regional station at Abohar. It works on post-harvest technology, food processing and value addition. Ludhiana also hosts Punjab Agricultural University and GADVASU.

286.(A) Punjab Agro Food grains Corporation (PAFC)

The Punjab Agro Foodgrains Corporation (PAFC) is a unit of Punjab Agro Industries Corporation. It was made the nodal agency in 2002-03 for the state's contract-farming programme. The aim was to move farmers from wheat and paddy to hyola, barley, maize, moong, sunflower and other crops. Option (d) is a distractor — PAFC is a corporation, not a commission.

287.(B) 2007

The Atta Dal Scheme was launched by the Punjab Government on 15 August 2007 to give wheat flour (atta) and pulses (dal) at very low prices to poor families holding blue ration cards.

288.(C) Atta Dal Scheme

Punjab issues a blue ration card to poor families covered under the Atta Dal Scheme, which gives them wheat flour and pulses at very low prices. The Shagun Scheme gives marriage money, and Antyodaya Anna Yojana is a Central scheme with its own card.

289.(A) Ludhiana

GADVASU is at Ludhiana; it was carved out of Punjab Agricultural University in 2005 and is named after the second Sikh Guru, Guru Angad Dev Ji.

290.(C) Jalandhar

Dr B.R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology is at Jalandhar; it started as a Regional Engineering College in 1987 and became an NIT in 2002. Chandigarh is a Union Territory, not a district of Punjab.

291.(A) Ludhiana

The Borlaug Institute for South Asia (BISA), set up with CIMMYT for wheat and maize research, has its Punjab centre at Ladhowal near Ludhiana. Its other centres are at Pusa (Bihar) and Jabalpur (MP).
