Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya was set up by an Act of Parliament in 1997 and began functioning in 2001 at Wardha in Maharashtra - the district Gandhi made his base after 1934, home to Sevagram Ashram.
