The Gulf of Mannar is the arm of the Indian Ocean (Laccadive Sea) lying between the south-eastern coast of Tamil Nadu and the western coast of Sri Lanka. It is separated from Palk Bay to its north by the chain of shoals called Adam's Bridge or Ram Setu, which runs from Dhanushkodi on Rameswaram island to Talaimannar on Mannar island. India and Sri Lanka are also divided by Palk Strait and Palk Bay, and Kachchatheevu island lies in this stretch. The gulf holds the Gulf of Mannar Marine National Park and the biosphere reserve notified in 1989, the first marine biosphere reserve in India, known for its pearl banks, chank fishery, coral reefs and dugongs. Myanmar, China and Afghanistan share land frontiers or lie inland, not across this gulf. Option 3.
